A Short synopsis.
I have been married to Muriel for 60 years and we have three children, nine grand-children and ten great grand-children
I was born in Glasgow, in 1938 to Alex and Mary McKinnon. I am the youngest of their six children.
Educated in Glasgow at Langside Primary school, Shawlands Academy and Stow College.
My career was in Engineering, and I trained as a Draughtsman in the Sugar Business, and later worked as Chief Estimator, and other management positions. The work in the Sugar Industry took me to various locations in America, Central America, South America and Thailand, where we lived and worked. Due to the demise of heavy engineering I suffered redundancy and then had a short spell in the Print Business, followed by a few years running a successful Driving School.
In the early 80’s when we were in Thailand, I heard the call of God to Mission work overseas. Later in the 80’s / 90’s Muriel and I worked out of Nairobi, Kenya with Tearfund a Christian Relief and Development organisation, and this lasted for five years. This was followed by a ten years stretch working with MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship) in Scotland, a Christian airline that flies small planes into the remotest places on earth. This took us back to Africa on occasions, and also to Papua New Guinea.
After retiring I was involved with others in launching a new charity in Scotland called ‘Christian Men Together’ and served as Chairman for eight years.
I have been a committed Christian almost all of my life, and wherever we have lived, we have been actively involved in Church activities.
